Rachel told me she dropped the last person off at the airport today and was now all alone after their Saturday wedding. I know how hard it is to send the last person off and for regular life to sink back in after such an amazing weekend.

I thought she could use a lil cheering up. Here’s 3 of my favorites from their wedding day.

Been a fairly quiet week around here (on major purpose)

Last weekend was a whirlwind of shooting a beautiful out of town wedding and this weekend will be a whirlwind of shooting a wedding for the lovely Amanda and Christian on Saturday and then haulin’ it to Atlantic beach to BE IN a wedding for a childhood friend on Sunday. Very very excited to be on the other side of the lens and to get see the super talented Cynthia Rose Photography work her magic on this day. She’s good ya’ll. Can’t wait to see her in action. We’re gonna have a ton of fun. Even convinced Ernie to stay an extra day at the beach for a little R&R.

anyway… here’s some photos of happenings around here this week. I’ve been working away on some headshots that I’ve had going on for a big salon in the area. Hairstylists are a good looking people ya’ll.

Here’s Baxter doing what he does best (and most often). I’ve been campaigning for another Saint Bernard. Ernie isn’t nearly as into it as I want him to be. I’ve thrown the biggest fit to get the 2 we have had, much to his chagrin, and he’s been head over heels in love with both. I mean, he and Baxter are best friends. They would both love a new friend.

I’ve been table scaping up in here. Nice right? It’s a low maintenance center piece for our dining room.

The birds finally found the new feeder. They mostly just kick seed out. It’s now started to sprout on the deck stairs.

I’ve also been getting my house plant collection back together now that we’re back home and not going anywhere.

Happy mother’s day to all the momma’s out there!!!

To the main mommas: my momma and Ernie’s momma.

To one of my best girlfriends who is celebrating her first mothers day. To my second shooter Patty (whose little man graces the top of this page every 30 seconds or so)

and to several of my brides who have welcomed little ones (or are expecting little ones) this year. There’s a few of you awesome ladies.

My momma made this when she was a little girl for my grandma. Loved it so much I made a photocopy of it.

Turns out if I have EVER been a friend of yours, even for a brief period of time, then I probably have a photo of you.

Here’s a few of my friend from summer camp- oh, about 17 years ago. I’m photographing her wedding today in Wilmington. Congratulations beautiful! I know it’s just going to be a perfect day.

A friend of mine asked me to gather up some old photos of a mutual friend and it got me digging through all my lil boxes full of old stuff. Turns out I save EVERYTHING that may or may not be sentimental at some point.

Let me just give you a glimpse of an 8 year old Emily. Um, really? GET. IT. GIRL. After seeing this I am a little disappointed at the mild and tame adult I turned into.

I think that drawing is of a rock singer.

looks like sleeping, like dirty hair, like terrible tv that you don’t want to watch, like hospitals, like needles, like waiting rooms, like not knowing what to say, like casseroles, like nausea, like radiation burn, like diarrhea, like not being able to answer the phone, like my dad trying to run a business without his business partner.

like the rest of us trying to desperately pick up pieces where we can- in the home, in the business, in being the one who does know what to say.

cancer looks like tears, like an extra glass of wine, like doubt, like guilt, and sometimes like avoidance.

cancer looks like the new normal when all you want is your old normal.

love you mom. more than you know. as much as you do me.

Man, right about now I really wish I was a writer. I wish I could convey with magic awesome words how much it meant to me to be a part of this wedding. To get to be one of the few to see some of my very good friends tie the knot. Everyone who had the pleasure of being part of this intimate group took part in the ceremony. It was a friend who hosted the ceremony in their backyard, a friend who officiated, a friend who sang, and a friend who took pictures. Feeling pretty grateful to be a friend with a set of wedding applicable skills.

Feeling even more grateful to get this wedding off my desk. Every single time I have sat down to edit it I have ended up crying. (I’m crying right now as I type this) It was just a really beautiful and life affirming day. Surrounded by so much joy, so much love, and so much promise for a really beautiful future.

The dress was perfect.

The food was perfect.

The light was perfect.

The friendship is perfect.

The love is perfect.

Jessica stamped all our names on little tags for the glasses. As someone who usually attends weddings as an employee it melted my heart to have one of my very own.

Peter made the wedding band for Jessica.

was a hugging kind of day.

One of my all time favorites. The officiant friend gets a little choked up during the vows.

I might frame this one for my wall. I made it into one!

Sneaky sneaky…I made it into another one.

Here’s a little life advice- never leave Ernie alone with your wedding cake.

doin’ stuff

I don’t remember exactly where we were or what we were doing but the other day Ernie said to me, “we should like do more stuff, you know like, go see things.” (ok, I doubt he said like so much but this is me retelling) but I knew if the homebodiest of all homebodies was telling me we needed to get out more than maybe it was time for a life check.

All fall and winter we were consumed with house rebuild/bank things and then with my Mom’s surgery and cancer treatment. (not that she would let me help her that much- she’s never one to “put anyone out”- classic southern woman)

but I am kind of taking this spring as a rebirth. Time to put my focus back in my business, time to make quality time for friends, and time to you know, like go do stuff.

And to prove that I am out and about- here’s Patty and my friend Jen at the Hob Nob Jazz series at Koka Booth. Sidecar social club and Peter Lamb and the Wolves were awesome. Don’t let the empty background fool you, there was a great turnout, we were just on the outskirts.

and here’s me and Ernie at the digital interactive exhibit at the Contemporary Art Museum. It’s a pretty awesome exhibit.

Now that the private (secret) wedding between these 2 lovebirds is public I can finally share this image. LOOK HOW HAPPY THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s infectious. Look for more of this wedding late next week.
